Cost and Benefits

  • A BIM approach identifies problems during design, well in advance of field construction. By the time the project mobilizes, the need for field staff is minimized to the point that one staffer can be eliminated. That staff reduction exceeds the full cost of implementing the BIM technology by a factor of two.
  • The Bunker Hill Community College Health and Wellness Center, completed by DOC in 2010, exemplifies the impact BIM has on our projects. This project is becoming the Commonwealth’s most successful undertaking. The fact that it was the first application of BIM technology is largely responsible for that success.
