DOC maintains fully staffed engineering and estimating departments to deliver thoughtful project budgets, critical path schedules, and logistical plans. O’Connell Development Group, one of our affiliated companies, offers expertise in project financing, development, and public permitting.
We’re proud of the many awards we’ve received for workmanship and performance. Among them are two Build America Awards, widely regarded as the “Oscars” of the construction industry. We are among the few firms in the nation to receive Build America awards for both heavy construction and building projects.
We are equally proud of our record ensuring the safe execution of all our jobs. That record is exemplified by our insurance experience modification factor which is under 1.0.
DOC has been in continuous operation since 1879, and offers a full range of construction management and project planning services. We currently employ 60 salaried professionals and nearly 100 hourly field personnel. More than 30 of our employees—including our president, senior officers, and project managers—are trained engineers with extensive on-site experience.
Engineering
DOC engineering staff conducts their own technical analyses of various site and infrastructure conditions that impact construction operations. Because we know more about specific local conditions than do most, we will apply that knowledge to benefit the project.
Estimating
Daniel O’Connell’s Sons takes great pride in the accuracy of our long range cost estimating. Our historical database is invaluable in translating conceptual ideas into solidly defined costs. Our clients should expect the highest level of confidence in our cost projections.
Building Information Modeling (BIM)
When it comes to BIM we understand one simple thing: Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance. Using three-dimensional intelligent design information, commonly referred to as BIM, DOC constructs projects “virtually” before building them in the field. This effort guarantees collaboration with the design team and a coordinated set of bid documents.
Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED)
We know that environmentally friendly design and construction methods are by far the most important trend in campus construction today, even as the technology for sustainability is evolving. As engineers, we know that buildings designed to be sustainable costs only slightly more than similar conventional approaches when factoring in the benefits of life-cycle cost savings. As builders, we also know that sustainability is our responsibility, so we understand how to work with team members in a collaborative manner.
