NSTAR Circulating Pipe: North Cambridge MA

Daniel O’Connell’s Sons was hired by NSTAR Electric to install 17,000 linear-feet of 8-inch continuously welded steel pipe throughout the city streets of Cambridge, MA, while maintaining all traffic flow and existing utilities with minimal impact to customers and abutters. DOC was responsible for coordination with the client, city, and numerous agencies in the redesign and relocation of a significant amount of pipeline within areas where the anticipated corridor was not available. Highlights of the project included rebuilding a new safety walk for the encasement of the pipeline through the Cambridge Street tunnel, PAN AM Railroad, and MWRA Crossings; relocation of a watermain, and coordination with Harvard University, MBTA, and DCR. The project was successfully completed and turned over to the owner ahead of schedule.
