The Massachusetts Division of Capital and Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) awarded DOC the SSU Mainstage Theater project, a complete gutting of the existing facility and rebuilding the theater as part of the Sophia Gordon Center for the Creative and Performing Arts. The $17.6 million project created a more intimate theater, raised seating, balcony, orchestra pit, and a mainstage floor with hydraulic lift. The smaller theater allows room for a full-sized rehearsal stage, a larger glass-walled lobby, a box office, shop rooms and offices. Due to the tight site on a busy main road, site logistics was a particular challenge on this project. Additionally, the telecom room for the entire campus is housed in the basement of the building. Uninterrupted power and access to this room was maintained at all times.
