Northfield Mount Hermon Rhodes Arts Center

As part of Northfield Mount Hermon School’s plan to consolidate onto one campus, the Rhodes Arts Center incorporates all aspects of the visual and performing arts into one centrally located venue. Located on a sloped site in the center of campus, the architects have masterfully incorporated a “Main Street” sense of a Main Street experience which traverses all three levels of the building. This 63,000 square foot complex includes a full concert hall seating 400, and end stage theater will full operating equipment and two dance studios-one outfitted as a black box theater. The visual arts program includes all disciplines such as ceramics, painting, sculpture, and digital and wet lab spaces to support the photography program. Also included are practice spaces, choral rooms, faculty offices, educational spaces for both visual and performing arts and various lounge spaces.

In July 2009, the Rhodes Arts Center earned a LEED Gold rating from the U.S. Green Building Council. Opened in fall 2008, NMH’s new 63,000-square-foot facility earned the leading rating for designing and constructing a green, energy efficient, high-performing building.
