MIT Westgate Infrastructure
This project is another in a series of utility infrastructure work undertaken throughout the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) campus. DOC was asked to provide design-build and construction services to complete the replacement of approximately 1500’ of buried 8” cast iron domestic water piping at the Westgate complex of MIT. DOC performed the installation of 1500’ of Class 52 ductile iron piping system to supply potable water to Westgate buildings. DOC was required to maintain full service to the Westgate facilities during all phases of the installation and assure the configuration, when completed, would guarantee no building would lose domestic water service as a result of an unscheduled outage. In addition, the domestic water piping installation included complete disinfection and testing as per the Cambridge Department of Public Works guidelines and to install the connection of a new 8” fire protection service line and post indicator valve to tie-in to the campus fire protection system.
