Amherst College Earth Sciences and Museum of Natural History

This 55,000 sq-ft brick, stone, and terra cotta building is a stunning addition to the East Campus of Amherst College. The layout of the building features an innovative grouping of teaching and research labs, faculty offices, and support spaces, which embody the Department of Geology’s approach to teaching. The Natural History Museum integrates storage walls to create a mix of exhibits, displays of mammoth, mastodon, and Irish elk specimens. The new Geology Department building houses teaching laboratories, student study and research spaces, classrooms, and a multidisciplinary GIS laboratory.
